Doctrina Lux Mentis-I

The main goal of this course is to improve your expository writing, in particular your ability to write an argument about a work of literature that engages and persuades the reader. We will accomplish this goal by analyzing why there are so many monsters and humans gone mad in Greek myths and in our own stories. We explore the nature and origins of madness and monstrosity as linked ways of thinking through what it means to be human, the nature of the divine, and what makes other groups of people different from us. Our focus will be the monsters and mad men and women of Greek myth, but we will also interrogate why we have so many stories about monsters in madness in our own culture, especially in film.
